True Residential Care Provides Personalized Care Because It’s the Right Thing To Do

“We have an entire society whose needs are not being met by anyone...not by their families, their community, their state, or their country.” Nasra Mohamad-Salah is referring to what she believes is a significant gap in adult residential care. To meet this need, in 2019 she founded True Residential Care, an Ann Arbor adult care facility for those with memory problems, dementia, Alzheimer's, traumatic brain injuries, and developmental or cognitive delays. A different approach The gap Mohamed-Salah’s facility fills is specifically care grounded in compassion. She believes an individual’s care plan should be specifically tailored to that person. “It starts with making sure someone is emotionally in a place where they can connect. Medication and food alone are not enough. I can focus on the things they are not getting…

Pay-It-Forward at the Bridge Community Cafe

Uncategorized
Bridge Community Cafe is a neighborhood-driven coffee shop. This cafe offers an inviting atmosphere and a safe space, accompanied by delicious vegan food options and home-brewed tea.  Opening during the height of the pandemic, Bridge Community Cafe was created to help support small businesses. However, cafe owner Sierra Lambert says the cafe became a community space that offered snacks and resources such as workshops while helping organize events.  “It's meant to be a community space,” said Lambert. “I want to organize and help people organize events, workshops, and skill sharing, but I also think you can't do that without any income. Coffee is a great way to bring money and bring people together from different places. Everyone drinks coffee, we also have tea, we have lemonade, we have cookies, and…

Free Will Astrology November 2022

Uncategorized
By Rob Brezsny ARIES (March 21-April 19) In the coming weeks, I encourage you to work as hard as you have ever worked. Work smart, too. Work with flair and aplomb and relish. (PS: By "work," I mean your job and any crucial activity that is both challenging and rewarding.) TAURUS (April 20-May 20) Here's my weird suggestion, Taurus. Just for now, only for a week or two, experiment with dreaming about what you want but can't have. And just…

The Green Screen: Bloom Ypsilanti

Uncategorized
We made it to fall. Although some of us may just be hanging on like the last withering leaves on the October branch, we shall sift through the detritus to bring you the second installment of The Green Screen. Green is our favorite fall color, and we’ve been letting off big green steam like a mean machine. Ann Arbor’s venerable Bloom dispensary opened a sister office on Michigan Avenue in Ypsilanti officially on October 9. What was once an Aveda spa is now a purveyor of some of Washtenaw County’s finest cannabis products. If you’ve been to Bloom in Ann Arbor, you’ve experienced their relaxed, communal approach. No neon signage, no Apple Store feel, no concrete evidence of opportunistic business practices. Bloom really does feel more like a place for…

Milarch is the founding artistic director of Theatre Nova, a non-profit in Ann Arbor that champions new playwrights and plays. “There are a lot of phenomenal playwrights but to be in a room where it’s happening for the first time or one of the very first times, there is a unique thrill that comes with that,” Milarch said. “We always hope that people will walk out with an appreciation of new plays and the talent of playwrights.” Milarch has been performing for her entire life.
